Obesity is a chronic, multifactorial disease influenced by genetic, metabolic, behavioral, environmental, and social factors. Addressing it poses a significant public health challenge, given its rising prevalence and its association with various chronic non-communicable diseases. The World Health Organization currently recognizes obesity as a chronic, relapsing condition; its prevention and management require actions that extend beyond a purely individual perspective (WHO, 2025).
Understanding obesity as a multifactorial issue reinforces the need for integrated, coordinated care within health services. Within the Unified Health System (SUS), care for individuals with overweight and obesity must account for different levels of care and promote comprehensive care, coordinating actions across health promotion, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. In this context, the Care Pathways for Overweight and Obesity guide the organization of user journeys within the Health Care Network, aiming to integrate various services and levels of technological complexity (Brazil, 2025).
